I’m Sal balharrie, a writer, creative producer, director.
I create original stories for screen & publication about women

A creative Mantra

Always work with
(really) great people

Hi,

Now that my feature film, like my brother, is out in the world, what’s next?
That’s a great question. Right now I’m adapting a novel, creating an animation
series and writing a thriller.

My super power is to crystalLise an idea to a point where we can all ‘see it’. Then, I build & Lead creative teams to make things happen. I am the most optimistic person in the room.

  • "Sal Balharrie is a first class creative driving force and has a natural talent for identifying unique content and global partnerships. Her ability to balance the 'show and the business' of entertainment is second to none."

    – Andrew Cole-Bulgin
Producer // Komixx // UK LA AUS

  • "Sal directed three short films that beautifully captured the essence of the project. I was immediately impressed by her intelligence and insight. I particularly appreciated her wonderful gift for language and ability to create texts that were both poetic and direct"

    – Dr Patricia Piccinini

  • "...add to this her desire to build, lead and inspire next generation film makers, Sal is a great asset to a creative team wishing to deliver collaborative, creative outcomes..."

    – Sandra Sciberras // Former Head VCA Film & Television University of Melbourne

  • " Dear Sal, Thanks so much for your time in developing this strategy for our Film Festival. It is clear you have put a large amount of time, brainpower and consideration into meeting the AIC's objectives. Thank you from all of us for this."

    – Elly Patterson Deputy Director Australia-Indonesia Centre

  • "The Centenary of Canberra was fortunate to have Sally-Ann direct three films commissioned to record The Skywhale, our hot air balloon-sculpture commission from Patricia Piccinini. Sally-Ann did a magnificent job coordinating a project involving a big creative and technical team in challenging environmental conditions and with considerable artistic and publicity sensitivities. The resulting films were a perfectly pitched revelation of the Artist and the Work and technically impressive accomplishments, delivered on time and budget. The Centenary is proud of all the work Sally Ann and her team did to help portray Patricia’s work.”
